ABC benches 'Ugly Betty' Things are looking pretty gloomy for Ugly Betty. In a just-announced Thursday night scheduling tweak, ABC is benching Betty beginning March 26 and replacing it with episodes of Samantha Who? and the new Megan Mullally-Cheryl Hines comedy In the Motherhood. The network's release concludes by saying, "Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?" After crunching the numbers, that puts Betty's return (provided Sam Who/Motherhood don't tank) sometime around (gulp) June -- a.k.a. outside the regular season. Now, granted, Betty hasn't exactly been killing it in the ratings this season, but it's still one of ABC's signature shows. At least I thought it was. "The Thursday night block is a good opportunity to launch these comedies," counters an ABC spokesperson. "That said, Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats." But when will it be back? The net's not saying, and that's the part that has me worried. Do you share my concern? Or is there a silver lining here that I'm just not seeing? Comment away. EW.com |

I hate all of these shows, but I can see how people like Betty and the Bachelor. SW just isn't funny to me or dramatic to me at all. It just is. |

Don't worry, Rick! There's no way ABC sitcoms can work against Survivor... They'll bomb for sure and Betty will return.. ;) |

I sure as hell hope so! Betty has always held steady against Survivor. Not by huge numbers but it's always been consistant |

I'm sure Betty fans have nothing to worry about. Sadly, I have a feeling SW's going to do poorly (as well as the new show), and ABC will axe it. :( |

ABC shuffles comedy slate Network bows 'Motherhood,' moves 'Scrubs' ABC is shuffling its comedy deck, adding a Thursday night laffer block to the mix. Alphabet net will bow new comedy "In the Motherhood" on Thursdays at 8 p.m. starting March 26, pairing the half-hour with sophomore comedy "Samantha Who." Net also plans to move "Scrubs" to Wednesdays at 8 p.m. starting March 18, and pair it with new laffer "Better off Ted." The Thursday block will displace "Ugly Betty," which the net said will return after "Motherhood" and "Samantha" complete their runs. "Samantha" had been airing on Monday nights, but the Alphabet net has opted to stick with two-hour editions of "The Bachelor," displacing the Christina Applegate starrer. New scheduling scenario puts ABC's two femme-centric laffers in front of "Grey's Anatomy" on Thursdays, and its more male-oriented comedies before "Lost." It also means "Samantha" will go up against Peacock's new Amy Poehler laffer, while "Motherhood" will face off against NBC's "My Name is Earl." "Scrubs," meanwhile, will battle CBS' "Old Christine," while "Ted" is up against Eye's "Gary Unmarried." Variety.com |

Hmm, I just realized a small positive about this move Betty will air 7 new episodes in a row starting Feb 5 then take a 2 month hiatus and air 5 more new episodes in a row in June. Not sure how the show will do in June at 8pm though. Maybe ABC is testing it as a summer show? |

It doesn't look bad... Wow, so ABC will have TWO new comedies? Cool! But I'm guessing they're both single cam comedies... *rolls eyes* |

Yeah, shame they're single camera because didn't McPherson want to get back to "regular" sitcoms (such as Roseanne/Home Improvement type of sitcoms)? I wish ABC the best with them but their sitcoms have been lacking. To be honest, they never should of cancelled Life with Bonnie or 8 Simple Rules a few years ago. At least both delivered steady ratings (well, more so for 8 Simple Rules). And were funny. It's kind of sad According to Jim is even still on the air. |

This is a disaster. SW won't have a lead-in. This new show has no fan base (obviously.) And going up against the third highest rated reality show..........it just doesn't seem too smart. |
